Chasing Demons

Today I would like to share a great article that you can use to help reach your goals and provide a few lessons for you to live by. The piece is titled, “Chasing Demons” and was written by Smitty of the Diesel Crew (one of my fellow Pennsylvania natives). I hope you enjoy!

Chasing Demons

Life is hard.

And you know what?  It doesn’t get any easier.

Every day you have to fight and fight and fight.  And then you wake up and do it all over again.  It also seems that you are the only one struggling.  Others have it easier than you.  They have more money than you.  They drive a nicer car than you.  Their kids act better than yours.  Their job is better.

They are happier….

If you could just get that one break.  That one chance to make your mark.  To finally get YOUR way.  To get the things you want.

Over the last 38 years I’ve learned many things….the hard way.  In the paragraph above I described my feelings, but I am guessing that I might have described some of you as well.

One of the things I’ve learned is, the more money you make and the more stuff you buy; it does not make you happier or more fulfilled.  It is the relationships you have with your family and others that really define you.

The other thing I learned is that opportunities don’t just happen.  At least not for everyone and especially not for me.  I wanted to give you some thoughts today that might help you along your journey and maybe help you achieve the goals that you have made for yourself.

Diesel Laws

Law 1: If you want something, you have to work harder than you’ve ever worked to achieve that goal.  You have to work when others are sleeping.  You have to lay out a plan and execute small steps forward every day.

Law 2: Give when no one is looking.

Law 3: No one will ever give you anything.  If you want something you have to work hard to get it (see Law #1)

Law 4: Money, a lot of times, makes things worse.  Focus on the goal.   Focus on the feeling of the accomplishment.  Focus on the journey and you’ll always come out on top.

Law 5: The easiest time to quit is when things get hard.  But a man steps up and tackles each challenge head on, and he doesn’t quit…ever.

Law 6: You will fail, make no mistake. There will be times when you will not be successful.  (see Law #5)

Law 7: Make a commitment to yourself to be fit.  You have the responsibility to take care of your family.  You have the responsibility to be around a long time.

Law 8: Take action now.  Do not hesitate.

Law 9: I can, I will; there is no try.  We do not allow the word “can’t” in the program of our lives.

Law 10: Make sure you tell the important people in your life how much they mean to you every day.  Do not miss an opportunity to bring them up.  Reconnect with the people that made a difference in your life.

Chasing demons is about not letting all the stuff that happened to you in your life affect your ability to be great.

“We’re not talking about being victims, we’re talking about being victors” – Eric Thomas

Monday Motivation – 120 Pounds Lost!

Many of us at some point in our lives have tried to lose weight. Maybe it’s a holiday you’re looking forward to, a special event like a wedding, or you just want to feel confident on the beach. Today’s Monday motivation shows a young man who made the weight loss journey with one magical word… CONSISTENCY.

No matter what your fitness goals are one thing stays the same and that is you need to stay consistent for results. So even if you can only convince yourself to workout 10 minutes each day you can see progress as long as you stay consistent. For anyone struggling with their weight I hope that this video lights a fire inside you that pushes you to work hard and stay consistent. I encourage you to come back and watch it when you find yourself struggling to find motivation. Enjoy!

Sportivo Fitness – Will You be the Biggest Mover?

The Biggest Mover competition will begin at Sportivo Fitness on February 4th. All Sportivo members are encouraged to participate. What’s that? You’re not a Sportivo member? Well lucky for you we will be offering a Biggest Mover one month starter package that will give you an opportunity to participate in the competition as well as unlimited gym and class access!

The competition is sure to be fun and will give you a chance to win some great prizes each week after the program begins.

How do you participate? Please see one of our front desk staff to go over the details. However, the concept is very simple. You will earn points based upon certain health and fitness activities you participate in. For instance, you will earn a set number of points for attending a fitness class, bringing a friend to the gym that has never been to Sportivo, or working with a personal trainer just to name a few.

There will be many ways that you can earn points and this competition will suit even the most novice fitness level.

So what are you waiting for? Make sure you take part in this fun competition starting on February 4th. Who knows, we may even give you the title of the Biggest Mover!

Monday Motivation from Jon Blais

Today I would like to share a video that has really made me reflect on my life. It features a man named Jon Blais who was fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS. It’s difficult not to tear up during it’s presentation because it makes you realize how much we sometimes take life for granted.

Jon’s dream was to complete an Ironman Triathlon. In case you are unaware of what an Ironman Triathlon consists of it involves swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles, and running a marathon 26.2 miles under a time limit of 17 hours. The world championships take place every year in Hawaii. Truly a phenominal accomplishment for someone in great health let alone someone battling Lou Gehrig’s disease. My purpose in posting this video is to encourage you to push the limits and never take life for granted. I hope you enjoy this Monday motivational piece, and please feel free to post your comments below. R.I.P. Jon Blais you’re truly an inspiration.
